"Wild and Free Forever" giclee black cowboy print

I finally had my first magazine (technically it's a journal!) cover published!! 

For such a major project I wanted to make sure that my subject matter was something very special to me. 

This piece is called Wild and Free forever, and is based off a picture I took of a black cowboy in Louisiana. My illustration is published on the cover of the Summer 2023 Journal.

This open-edition print is an archival quality Giclée reproduction with a color lifespan of 200+ years. It is printed with acid free ink on acid free watercolor paper. comes signed and rolled in a tube with a laser engraved certificate of authenticity. Please expect 3-4 weeks delivery as the prints are scheduled to arrive at the end of August. 

About the artwork as printed inside of the journal: 

"Wild & Free Forever is a reference to a 200ft mural of Black Cowboys I painted in Greensboro, which features my paternal grandfather--he was a cowboy. The horseshoe on the back cover is a horseshoe that used to be on my Maternal grandfather's mailbox at the house my mom grew up in. The horseshoe is above the doorway in my studio, and an image of the actual horseshoe is overlaid onto my painting. I was taught that you hang a horseshoe with the ends up for good luck. Black cowboys are such an inspiration because of the space of resistance formed around the culture, and the way that black cowboy culture bucks against the mainstream exemption of them from existence. Just like they were here, we are here. Wild and free, forever."
